JESSICA ZIEGENFUSS, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Art History
Texas A&M International University
Laredo, Texas

Dr. Ziegenfuss is a modern and contemporary art historian, visual studies scholar, and art critic who teaches and works on the South Texas border.

Her scholarship explores the material and cultural lives of objects, sites, and structures, often at the margins of traditional art history. Topics at the center of her research include materiality, ecological art, and cultural studies. In particular, her work critically examines the relationship between resource extraction, related industries (petrochemical, nuclear, mining), embodiment and the environment, histories of slow violence, and the globalized art world.

Additionally, she is an independent curator who has curated numerous exhibitions in association with modern and contemporary collections of photography, art, and ephemera.

Her book project continues her research on synthetics in Eva Hesse's art.
